OFFICIAL RULEBOOK & REGULATIONS

1. MEMBERSHIP & ELIGIBILITY

All contestants must be current LCRC members prior to entering any event.

Membership fee must be paid in full

Signed membership application is required

Contestants must:

Be female

Be a minimum of 13 years of age as of January 1st

Minors (under 18):

Must have a signed parent/guardian waiver

2. SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

Mandatory Protective Gear

Helmet (approved) required at all times while mounted

Protective vest required

Stock Safety

All cattle must be of appropriate size and condition

All horned cattle must be tipped to approximately the size of a toonie

LCRC reserves the right to refuse unsafe contestants or remove unsafe animals

3. EQUIPMENT & RIDING RULES

Rope Requirements

Rope must include a bell

Bell must remain under the belly of the animalSpurs

Any spur deemed unsafe or sharp will not be allowed

Riding Style

Riders may ride one-handed or two-handed

One-Handed Rule

Free hand must not touch the animal or be used for balance

Upper body contact with the animal may result in disqualification (judge’s discretion)

Two-Handed Rule

If one hand comes free, rider must continue one-handed without re-grabbing

Upper body contact with the animal may result in disqualification (judge’s discretion)

4. RIDE & TIME RULES

Qualified ride is 8 seconds

Time begins when the animal’s front feet leave the chute

5. SCORING SYSTEM

100-point system: 50 rider / 50 animal

Judged on control, style, aggressiveness, and animal performance

Judges’ decisions are final

6. SEASON POINT SYSTEM

1st–100, 2nd–90, 3rd–80, 4th–70, 5th–60, 6th–50, 7th–40, 8th–30, 9th–20, 10th–10

Points accumulate through the season

Season standings determine LCRC Season Champion

7. STOCK DRAW

Random draw prior to each performance

Re-draws only for injury/unsuitability at judges’ discretion8. TURN OUTS & ENTRY POLICY

24-hour notice required

Failure = entry fee due before next rodeo

Medical exceptions require doctor’s note

First come, first served; entry fee due upon entry

9. DRESS CODE (WESTERN STANDARD)

Long sleeve shirt with collar and cuffs

Jeans, cowboy boots, cowboy hat (helmet while riding)

10. CONDUCT & SPORTSMANSHIP

Respect officials and committees; professional conduct required

No arguing, abuse, or unsportsmanlike behavior

Violations may result in disqualification, fines, or suspension

11. DISQUALIFICATIONS

Failure to complete ride

Improper contact or free-hand use

Missing safety gear

Unsafe/illegal equipment

Interference or chute rule violations

12. RE-RIDES

Offered for non-performing animal or equipment failure (not rider-caused)

Judges decide; immediate accept/decline required

13. LIABILITY & ASSOCIATION AUTHORITYAll contestants compete at their own risk

LCRC does not provide insurance coverage

Signed waivers are mandatory

LCRC may interpret/enforce rules; all rulings are final

Dress code & equipment

  • Contestants must wear appropriate western attire, including long-sleeved shirts, jeans, and cowboy boots.
  • Chaps are recommended for roughstock events.
  • Specific equipment requirements for each event will be outlined in the event brief.

Cow riding competition rules

  • Riders must maintain control of their horse and cow throughout the run.
  • Scoring will be based on time, control, and execution of required maneuvers.
  • Specific penalties for infractions (e.g., missed turns, loss of control) will apply.

Disciplinary actions

  • Minor infractions may result in warnings or time penalties.
  • Serious violations, including animal abuse or dangerous conduct, will lead to immediate disqualification and potential suspension from future events.
  • Appeals process will be available for certain disciplinary actions.
